UPSDOWNS AND THEN UPS!!
Our doctors have told the both of us that we have to find ways to
relieve stress and take it easy. I dont know if watching the
Browns every Sunday is that remedy.
Mike and myself took off for Baltimore for our third consecutive
year to Baltimore to watch our Browns take on the Ravens. We left
very early Saturday morning so we would arrive in Baltimore around
11am so we could watch the Ohio State Buckeyes take on the Michigan
Wolverines. We arrived in Baltimore and we were greeted by traffic
congestion in the city like I have never seen before. We were able
to get to our hotel right at 12pm and we didnt miss a play of the
big Buckeye game. We enjoyed watching the Buckeyes beat the
Wolverines again but our thoughts quickly turned to Sunday and the
Browns/Ravens Game. We knew this game was very important to our
team because we could not only improve our record to 6-4 but we
could also put the nail in the coffin for the Ravens.
We did manage to run into some Browns players in the hotel and they
were all very nice and very professional. We were able to talk to
Punter Dave Zastudil, Ryan Pontbriand, Josh Cribbs, Kevin Schafer,
Ryan Tucker, Braylon Edwards, Leon Williams and many others. They
looked very loose and at the same time knew they had to take care
of business on Sunday. We even got to see our friend and former
Cleveland Brown Dino Hall. Josh Cribbs then greeted Dino and they
had a nice conversation together. We then left the hotel and
walked around the inner harbor of Baltimore and we kept noticing
that people were not wearing no Ravens gear! Mike and myself just
thought that was so weird. If you ever walk in Cleveland at night
or go into a restaurant you will always see people wearing a hat,
sweatshirt or something with the Browns!
Sunday November 18 GAMEDAY!!
We awoke early to head down to the stadium to tailgate with some of
the Hall Of Fame Fans from Baltimore. The one thing we noticed on
our walk was that the city was dead. There was no one around. Even
when we got close to the stadium all of the lots showed fullbut
there were no cars. I even joked with Mike that all the fans must
be in jail or something and Mike even told me that they might all
be dead! We then walked right up the Ravens Walk which is the
main area for tailgating and the place was dead. At this time it
was around 8:30ish and still no one around. Cleveland fans are
parked out in the muni, the pit and all around the stadium by 6am.
We just thought that was funny. We did meet up with some Browns
fans that made the trip and it is always a great sight to see
Browns fans representing in opposing cities. We met up with the
Hall OF Fame Fans from Baltimore and they took care of us and boy
did they have a feast of food. I thought it was Thanksgiving
already.
It was about 11am and it was time to walk through the whole
tailgate and up to the stadium. We now started to see the lots
packed and the verbal abuse was in full gear. We had to walk
through a parking lot that is about a 15-minute walk and through
all the Ravens fans. Mike and myself took some serious verbal abuse
but that is all for now.
The game was very exciting especially in the second half. We were
able to have a good lead and once we had the lead the verbal abuse
started. At one point in the game Kellen Winslow looked over at us
and noticed we were taking some crap and told us he had our back!
This was the up moment because we were leading and really felt like
we were in control. Then the downs the momentum started to turn
and we saw our lead shrink and then gone. We were down by 3 points
with seconds remaining. Mike and myself were sick to our stomachs
and then add insult to injury the Raven fans just giving us grief
the whole time. Thanks to Josh Cribbs and the nice return back and
the nice plays by Derek, Braylon and Kellen to give Phil a chance
to tie this game. Mike and I stood there with our hands in the
praying position ready to see if we were going into overtime or a
very long ride home. The kick was up and then we thought it was
good and then saw it bounce back. The refs said no good the fa
ns of Baltimore was going crazy and people in our face screaming at
us and all we wanted to do was to just get away. We then noticed
the players and the refs at the end zone gathered and then saw
about 30 players from both teams praying in the middle of the
field. We just stood there in disbelief that we lost this game. We
kept saying no, no, no! I received a call from my agent Derek
Schaefer and he told me that the television announcers were saying
the field goal was good. At this time all the Raven fans that were
giving us crap had left. We stayed and we kept our hands in the air
making the signal GOOD! Then the ref announced that the field
goal was good and the Browns players which most of them were on the
sidelines started jumping up and down. THIS IS CRAZY!! This doesnt
happen to us! The calls always go against us!! Then we win the coin
toss and Mike and myself just kept on saying, WE ARE GOING TO
WINWE ARE GOING TO WIN!! We were able to get in field goal range
and Phil did connect for the game winning field goal. The Browns
bench erupted and so did we! The emotions of that game with the ups
and downs were incredible. We stayed in the stadium cheering and
screaming with other Browns fans and then we had to leave. We knew
leaving the stadium would be a challenge especially after how we
won. Upon leaving the stadium we had a few guys take a swing at
Mike and myself but we handled the situation. The walk through the
tailgate area back to hour hotel was nuts. People throwing stuff at
us and wanting to fight but we managed to get out of there without
a major problem. We did run into a guy that got his nose bashed in
pretty good by a Raven fan!
We managed to get to our hotel and get on the road. Our emotions
were high and why notour Browns are 6-4 and we quickly turned on
the Jets/Steelers game and were able to listen to the Jets beat the
Steelers as well!! What a great weekend, the buckeyes, the Browns
WIN and the Steelers loose!!
